Our Newham Work logo

Our Newham Work – is free to all Newham residents. They offer a range of advice and guidance including various support services to help you secure employment. These include:

  • improving your CV
  • identifying exciting career options
  • advising on jobs to best suit your skills
  • good quality apprenticeships for all ages
  • bespoke training to enhance your existing skills including accredited qualifications
  • preparing you for attending assessment centres and interviews.

Our Newham Work has filled almost 40,000 jobs with Newham residents. When you are in work, they continue to assist you to progress your career. Whatever your level of experience, they can provide support and advice about your next step. ACAS Logo

ACAS – the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service. They work with millions of employers and employees every year to improve workplace relationships. They are an independent public body that receives funding from the government.

ACAS provide free and impartial advice to employers, employees and their representatives on:

  • employment rights
  • best practice and policies
  • resolving workplace conflict

Newham employment right hub – The Employment Rights Hub is key to delivering on the Mayor’s community wealth building agenda to ensure that economic growth in Newham is shared locally. The Mayor is putting people at the heart of everything the Council does to ensure that residents have access to support and advice  on employment rights, whatever their circumstances. You can access free confidential support and advice from the new Employment Rights Hub if you are a Newham resident.

It’s important to take action quickly, as in some circumstances you only have a certain amount of time to act. If you are having a problem at work, the Employment Rights Hub is there for advice and support to help provide a solution.

Volunteering in Newham – Volunteering is a great way to give something back to the community, and to make use of spare time. It makes a difference to your local area and the people who live there. Community Links Logo

Youth & Employment Community Links – a hub tackling health and social inequality in East London and beyond. They work alongside the community, helping people of all ages reach their full potential. They take their local knowledge of what works to influence national decision making. They are proud to be part of Catch22. Community Links can enable young people to realise their potential by removing barriers to success, building confidence and improving life skills.

Their focus is on personal development, they think about the individual with one-to-one support for each person helping them to plan for the long-term and move on to a positive destination.

Their Early Action approach ensures they work with young people at the earliest possible stage to prevent underlying issues from developing, guiding them on to positive destinations, helping them to discover their own strengths and inspiring them to achieve their goals.

They deliver a range of Youth and Employment services to isolated neighbourhoods through their Community Hubs.

Aim 4 Work Logo

Aim4Work – is funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund under the Building Better Opportunities programme and forms part of their commitment to invest in local projects to tackle the root causes of poverty, promote social inclusion and drive jobs and growth.

How does it work? Once accepted onto the programme, an Aim4Work Employment Advisers will:

  • Get to know you
  • Draw up an action plan to get you into work
  • Introduce you to interested employers
  • Provide you with in-work support
  • Be there with you every step of the way

Your action plan – Your action plan is tailored to your needs and will outline what you can do with support from Aim4Work to achieve your goal of getting back into work.

The plan may include support with CV creation and applying for benefits, discussion about disclosure of a mental health condition and creating a positive health statement. Job searching tactics will form part of your action plan and you can explore interview techniques. If you need general support with self-confidence, a dedicated confidence course may also be incorporated into your Aim4Work plan. Wellbeing support is available, so you may find that you can include courses in yoga or fitness to help you prepare for the next step. And support doesn’t end with a successful interview! Once you take up a new role, Aim4Work will continue to provide in-work support to help you along every step of the way.

  • Over 25 years old?
  • Living in South London, North London or East London?
  • Legally entitled to live and work in the UK?

*Examples of common mental health conditions include: Anxiety, depression, generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and social anxiety disorder.
