Shelter – Support provided:

  • Locally – Their advice and support services offer one-to-one, personalised help with housing issues and homelessness.
  • Online – On their website, find expert information about everything from reclaiming your deposit to applying as homeless, or speak to an adviser over webchat.
  • Over the phone – Their free emergency helpline is open 365 days a year to answer calls from anyone struggling with a housing issue or homelessness.
  • Legal – Their solicitors provide free legal advice and attend court to help people who’ve lost their homes or are facing eviction.

StreetLink exists to help end rough sleeping by enabling members of the public to connect people sleeping rough with the local services that can support them.

If you are concerned about someone over the age of 18 that you have seen sleeping rough in England or Wales, you can use their website here to send an alert to StreetLink. The details you provide are sent to the local authority or outreach service for the area in which you have seen the person, to help them find the individual and connect them to support. It is important to note that if you think the person you are concerned about is under 18 please do not contact StreetLink but instead call the police.

Homelessness prevention and advice Newham – It is very important to them to help prevent you from becoming homeless. To have the best chance of achieving this they need to know as soon as possible if you are under the threat of homelessness. Community Links Housing legal support – a hub tackling health and social inequality in East London and beyond. They work alongside the community, helping people of all ages reach their full potential. They take their local knowledge of what works to influence national decision making. They are proud to be part of Catch22. Community Links specialist advisors, and dedicated volunteers, provide extensive support for clients with housing issues.

Community Links can improve your housing arrangements: helping you to clear rent arrears, apply for council housing and Homeswap, petition your landlord to carry out repairs and assist you with a tenancy deposit or estate agency dispute. They will take into account your needs, challenges and aspirations and work with you to reach a positive conclusion. They support people to overcome the challenges they face, make informed decisions and move towards a more stable and secure future.

Newham Housing Hub – are open to Council Tenants and Leaseholders, as well as residents who have pre-arranged appointments to see Newham London Housing Needs and Supply Teams (Lettings, Temporary Accommodation and Private Sector Housing). These hubs offer a one-stop-shop so residents can discuss queries with staff face to face and try to resolve any issues they are experiencing in person. Services present at the hubs include Housing Liaison, Lettings, Income Collection/Rents, Repairs and Maintenance, Temporary Accommodation, Neighbourhood Response, Resident Involvement and Private Sector Housing. Although the Housing Needs and Supply Teams (Lettings, Temporary Accommodation and Private Sector Housing) operate on an appointment only basis, you do not require an appointment to meet with other services. However an appointment will be booked if staff are unavailable when you arrive, and you have the option to book an appointment if you would like to guarantee a specific date/time.

To book an appointment, please use one of the following options: By emailing stratfordhousinghub@newham.gov.uk with your name, address, enquiry, and availability – a member of their team will reply with an appointment date and time. By contacting an officer of the relevant service area and requesting an appointment (e.g. via email or over the phone) or Council tenants and leaseholders can visit the hub and speak with the receptionist to book an appointment.
