Child Autism Awareness Event
East End Medical Centre was pleased to host a Child Autism Awareness Event on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, bringing together parents, carers, healthcare professionals and local support services.
The event provided an opportunity for families to learn more about autism, the assessment and diagnosis pathway, and the range of support available to children and families within the local community.
We were delighted to welcome representatives from:
- Children with Autism in Newham Diagnosis Team (CHAND)
- Speech and Language Therapy Team
- Mencap
- Newham Family Hub
Each service gave a short presentation about their role, the support they provide, and how families can access their services. This gave parents and carers valuable insight into the different types of support available and helped explain what families can expect at different stages of their journey.
A Q&A session followed the presentations, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions and discuss topics that were important to them. The informal nature of the event also allowed parents and carers to speak directly with individual services, including having more private conversations where they felt comfortable discussing personal concerns or asking specific questions.
The event was designed to be friendly and accessible, ensuring that families could attend without feeling pressured and could take the time they needed to gather information, meet professionals and make useful connections.
Parents and carers were also provided with information, resources and useful signposting, along with some goodies to take home as they left.
We would like to thank all the services and professionals who attended and contributed their time and expertise, as well as all the parents and carers who came along and took part.
